Scope of Baseline study in Uganda
Child’s Play Project’s goal is to strengthen Early Childhood Development Education in Northern Uganda. It works to provide quality ECD activities to among 3,000 refugee and host community children in Adjumani district. It includes increasing school readiness for primary aged children, and their access to ECD Centers. At the early stage of the project, baseline study aimed to generate data for a set of outcome indicators. That assignment included six ECD centers targeted and located in refugee settlements and host communities in Adjumani.
Methodology of Baseline study in Uganda
Evaluation Expert Armel Oguniyi, led the entire baseline process at Right To Play with the technical support of SCUS Research Department. The methodology considered a cross-sectional evaluation design to describe the status of the school readiness skills among children. The IDELA framework helped to measure children’s school readiness skills. Key informants namely caregivers and district education officials contributed through interviews and group discussions. In addition, the school learning environment assessment tool provided useful data on the physical learning environment of the ECD centres. The baseline methodology also ascertains data on school enrolments and transition to primary school for KG children.
Outcomes of Baseline study in Uganda
The baseline report informed the development of realistic and achievable targets grounded within the project operating context. Besides, it informed organizational strategic learning related to the use of the International Development and Early Learning Assessment (IDELA) Framework. The Baseline supported staff capacity building and contributed to the global body of knowledge of IDELA measurement.
